Our Assessment of the Latent Capacity
of Your Product-Development Operation

Benefits to You

  1. You gain a highly informed estimate of the latent capacity of your product-development operation, i.e. of the number of additional projects that your product-development operation should be completing per year, given the resources on your payroll at the time of the assessment.  Think of latent capacity as free capacity.

  2. You learn precisely what changes to make to your management process, the sequence in which to make the changes, and the timing for each change, should you choose to exploit any latent capacity that we might find within your product-development operation.

What's Involved

  1. We visit the major facilities of your product-development operation, and we conduct confidential interviews 1  with individuals whom we deem representative of the appropriate segments of the population at each facility.

  2. We collect appropriate data from the plans of those projects, which are active within your product-development operation at the time of the assessment.  Whenever possible, we request copies of the plans, for further analysis after the visits.

  3. We analyze the transcripts of the interviews and the data that we glean from the plans of the active projects, and we infer from our analysis the degree to which you might expect the productivity of your product-development operation to increase, realistically.

  4. We document our assessment with a draft-report.

  5. We afford the individuals, with whom we conduct interviews, an opportunity to review the sections of our draft-report that reference information from the respective interviews.  If necessary, we obfuscate further those sections that the individuals perceive as problematic for themselves in any way.

  6. We deliver our report to you, via a brief meeting and a presentation.

Our Report

Our report to you consists of the following sections:
  1. Executive summary:  This states our conclusions regarding the latent capacity of your product-development operation.
  2. Process Description:  This section explains the type of information that we find useful for an assessment and how we use the information,
  3. Analysis:  In this section, we discuss our findings for your product-development operation.
  4. Recommendations:  In this section we list any changes that we might recommend for your management process, in the event that we find appreciable evidence of latent capacity.
